The second stage of Xiwuqi’s Genghis Khan MTB Festival was dominated by Team Triace rider Feng Kuan Gao, who attacked in the very first kilometre and would never be seen again until after the finishline. A small group of protagonists tried to bridge the gap, but the other Team Triace competitors did a superb job in blocking every counterattack. Eventually, after 41km of racing in
sunny but very windy conditions, Sun Chengyi scored a fine second place 46 seconds behind the winner, with Feng Kuan Jie – a regular podium rider in Nordic Ways’s events – outsprinting four others to grab 3rd place.
Championship Systems’ Bitbit Baby Marites Sotto was the strongest in the 41km women’s race. Like yesterday, she preceeded Team Triace’s Wang Xue Li and Xiwuqi’s local rider and winner of the 2010 short-distance event Wang Ya Wen.
The second stage was the shortest of the three, but it was characterised by a heavy wind that made things difficult for many participants. Most of the previous day’s mudpools had luckily already dried up as there has been no more rain. As such, participants who are less focussed on their time results, had a splendid time enjoying a different part of Xiwuqi’s grasslands. Feedback at the finish area was positive without exception!
Tomorrow, stage 3, features the longest stage of 82km and will also decided the overall winner of the 2011 Genghis Khan MTB Festival.
