The fastest 3 men overall of the 2011 Genghis Khan MTB Adventure have confirmed their participation in this year’s event and as such become the hot favourites for the overall victory once again. Team Triace from Shanghai will indeed have Wang Lei, Feng Kuan Jie and Feng Kuan Gao in its ranks in Xiwuqi!
Defending champion Feng Kuan Gao may find it difficult to repeat his brilliant performance from last year, where he attacked early on in stage 2 and managed to keep a substantial gap over his main foes. A time advantage he narrowly held onto one day later. Wang Lei, himself winner of the overall title in 2009 and 2010, took the other two stage wins last year and looks determined to get revenge and grab a third Genghis Khan title. However, there is also Feng Kuan Jie: twice second and once third overall at GKF in the past, and winner of the 2010 Birkebeinerrittet China in Yakeshi.
Team Triace will face some tough opposition in this year’s event from, amongst others, the Chiru-WTB team from Hong Kong, winners of last April’s Borneo Epic in Sabah, a number of strong individuals from Europe and of a strong squad from Ulanbaatar. Competitive-minded participants in this year’s Genghis Khan MTB will certainly be up for a challenge!
Chiru Bikes and WTB had an official team launch party in Hong Kong last week.
